Discovering Ransol Valley
What will we find in this excursion?
Located in the parish of Canillo, the glacial valley of Ransol is an ideal starting point for many excursions to lakes, peaks and refuges. The three levels will start and finish at the picnic area at the end of la Coma de Ransol.
Walk grade
Coma de Ransol-Cóms de Jan refuge-Pales de Cabana Sorda peak-Coma de Varilles peak-Coma de Ransol
From the picnic area of la coma de Ransol we will go up to the Cóms de Jan refuge along the "normal" path. Here we will take the GRP until we reach the pass that separates us from the Incles valley. Walking along the road, we first reach the Pales de Cabana Sorda peak and finally the Coma de Varilles peak. This peak is located between the valleys of Ransol to the west, the Vall d'Incles to the east and the Ariege to the north. It is therefore an extraordinary viewpoint. Return to the starting point along the same route.
Coma de Ransol-Cóms de Jan refuge-Cóms de Jan collet-L’Estany Mort peak-Coma de Ransol
From the picnic area of la coma de Ransol we will take the path that leads to the Cóms de Jan refuge. We will continue climbing until we reach the Cóms de Jan col, located between the bony de la pleta de Jan and l’Estany Mort peak where we will arrive passing through a long shovel. The return to the starting point will be along the same route.
Coma de Ransol-Ransol first lake-Cóms de Jan refuge-Coma de Ransol
From the end of the Coma de Ransol road, the ascent to the first lake follows the Meners river almost all the time. To get to this lake we will have to make an "extra" effort as there will be almost 500 metres of positive slope. We will start the descent towards the Cóms de Jan refuge through the GRP, ending up at the same place where we left from.
